Las 10 mejores canciones de U2

10. Vertigo, 3:11. Primer sencillo de How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb (2004), fue nº 1 en Irlanda, Italia, Reino Unido, Grecia, Argentina, India y Letonia.

9. Where the Streets Have No Name, 4:36 (versión 7") y 5:37 (versión del álbum).

8. I Will Follow, 3:37.

7. Beautiful day, 4:08.

6. Pride (In the Name of Love), 4:40. Dedicada a Martin Luther King e incluida en el banda sonora de En el nombre del padre (In the Name of the Father, 1993) de Jim Sheridan, salió como primer single de The Unforgetable Fire en septiembre de 1984.

5. New Year's Day, 5:35.

4. I Still Haven't Found Just I Looking For, 4:37.

3. With or Without You, 4:56.

1. Sunday Bloody Sunday, 4:34. Letra de Bono y The Edge.

Ever Fallen In Love

You spurn my natural emotions
You make me feel I'm dirt
And I'm hurt
And if I start a commotion
I run the risk of losing you
And that's worse

Ever fallen in love with someone?
Ever fallen in love?
In love with someone
Ever fallen in love? (Love…)
In love with someone
You shouldn't've fallen in love with

I can't see much of a future
Unless we find out what's to blame
What a shame
And we won't be together much longer
Unless we realize that we are the same

Ever fallen in love with someone?
Ever fallen in love?
In love with someone
Ever fallen in love? (Love…)
In love with someone
You shouldn't've fallen in love with

You disturb my natural emotions
You make me feel I'm dirt
And I'm hurt
And if I start a commotion
I'll only end up losing you
And that's worse

Ever fallen in love with someone?
Ever fallen in love?
In love with someone
Ever fallen in love? (Love…)
In love with someone
You shouldn't've fallen in love with

Ever fallen in love with someone?
Ever fallen in love?
In love with someone
Ever fallen in love? (Love…)
In love with someone
You shouldn't've fallen in love with

Ever fallen in love?
In love with someone
Ever fallen in love? (Love…)
In love with someone
You shouldn't've fallen in love with

Fallen in love with
Ever fallen in love with someone
You shouldn't've fallen in love with

Angelic Upstarts - Solidarity

As the Polish workers fight to make their stand
And behind them every honest working man
In unity there’s each other and your friend becomes your brother
And in the tyrant’s heart will be a lesson learned

Give them hope, give them strength, give them life
Like a candle burning in the black of night
We are with you in our hearts and in our minds
And we’ll pray for our nation through it’s darkest times

I know that your hearts are made of the firmer kind
And a riot stick won’t kill your peace of mind
You can fight with all the spirit that you possess
Because your fight is a struggle at it’s best

Give them hope, give them strength, give them life
Like a candle burning in the black of night
We are with you in our hearts and in our minds
And we’ll pray for our nation through it’s darkest times

The tyrant has no smile on his face
He knows that in his mind he’s a disgrace
The religion of union will take his breath away
Our turn will come and we will have our say

Give them hope, give them strength, give them life
Like a candle burning in the black of night
We are with you in our hearts and in our minds
And we’ll pray for our nation through it’s darkest times

As the Polish workers fight to make their stand
And behind them every honest working man
Join hands with your brother and then you can help each other
Watch the tyrants burn in the fire that they have built

Give them hope, give them strength, give them life
Like a candle burning in the black of night
We are with you in our hearts and in our minds
And we’ll pray for our nation through it’s darkest times

Give them hope, give them strength, give them life
Like a candle burning in the black of night
We are with you in our hearts and in our minds
And we’ll pray for our nation through it’s darkest times

The Clash - London Calling

London calling to the faraway towns
Now war is declared and battle come down
London calling to the underworld
Come out of the cupboard, you boys and girls

London calling, now don't look to us
Phoney beatlemania has bitten the dust
London calling, see we ain't got no swing
Except for the ring of that truncheon thing

The ice age is coming, the sun is zooming in
Meltdown expected, the wheat is growing thin
Engines stop running, but I have no fear
'Cause London is drowning and I live by the river

London calling to the imitation zone
Forget it, brother, you can go at it alone
London calling to the zombies of death
Quit holding out and draw another breath

London calling, and I don't wanna shout
But while we were talking I saw you nodding out
London calling, see we ain't got no high
Except for that one with the yellowy eyes

The ice age is coming, the sun is zooming in
Engines stop running, the wheat is growing thin
A nuclear error, but I have no fear
'Cause London is drowning and I, I live by the river

The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in
Engines stop running, the wheat is growing thin
A nuclear error, but I have no fear
'Cause London is drowning and I, I live by the river

Now get this

London calling, yes, I was there too
And you know what they said? Well, some of it was true
London calling at the top of the dial
And after all this, won't you give me a smile?
London calling

I never felt so much alike alike alike alike...

The Lonesone Death of Hattie Carroll

William Zanzinger killed poor Hattie Carroll
With a cane that he twirled around his diamond ring finger
At a Baltimore hotel society gath'rin'.
And the cops were called in and his weapon took from him
As they rode him in custody down to the station
And booked William Zanzinger for first-degree murder.
But you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears,
Take the rag away from your face.
Now ain't the time for your tears.

William Zanzinger, who at twenty-four years
Owns a tobacco farm of six hundred acres
With rich wealthy parents who provide and protect him
And high office relations in the politics of Maryland,
Reacted to his deed with a shrug of his shoulders
And swear words and sneering, and his tongue it was snarling,
In a matter of minutes on bail was out walking.
But you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears,
Take the rag away from your face.
Now ain't the time for your tears.

Hattie Carroll was a maid of the kitchen.
She was fifty-one years old and gave birth to ten children
Who carried the dishes and took out the garbage
And never sat once at the head of the table
And didn't even talk to the people at the table
Who just cleaned up all the food from the table
And emptied the ashtrays on a whole other level,
Got killed by a blow, lay slain by a cane
That sailed through the air and came down through the room,
Doomed and determined to destroy all the gentle.
And she never done nothing to William Zanzinger.
But you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears,
Take the rag away from your face.
Now ain't the time for your tears.

In the courtroom of honor, the judge pounded his gavel
To show that all's equal and that the courts are on the level
And that the strings in the books ain't pulled and persuaded
And that even the nobles get properly handled
Once that the cops have chased after and caught 'em
And that the ladder of law has no top and no bottom,
Stared at the person who killed for no reason
Who just happened to be feelin' that way without warnin'.
And he spoke through his cloak, most deep and distinguished,
And handed out strongly, for penalty and repentance,
William Zanzinger with a six-month sentence.
Oh, but you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears,
Bury the rag deep in your face
For now's the time for your tears.

U2 - New Year's Day

All is quiet on New Year's Day.
A world in white gets underway.
I want to be with you, be with you night and day.
Nothing changes on New Year's Day.
On New Year's Day.

I... will be with you again.
I... will be with you again.
Under a blood-red sky
A crowd has gathered in black and white
Arms entwined, the chosen few
The newspaper says, says
Say it's true, it's true...
And we can break through
Though torn in two
We can be one.

I... I will begin again
I... I will begin again.

Oh, oh. Oh, oh. Oh, oh.
Oh, maybe the time is right.
Oh, maybe tonight.
I will be with you again.
I will be with you again.

And so we are told this is the golden age
And gold is the reason for the wars we wage
Though I want to be with you
Be with you night and day
Nothing changes
On New Year's Day
On New Year's Day
On New Year's Day

Purple Haze (1967)

Are You Experienced?

Purple Haze all in my brain,
lately things don't seem the same,
actin' funny but I don't know why
'scuse me while I kiss the sky.

Purple Haze all around,
don't know if I'm coming up or down.
Am I happy or in misery?
Whatever it is, that girl put a spell on me.

Purple Haze all in my eyes,
don't know if it's day or night,
you've got me blowing, blowing my mind
is it tomorrow or just the end of time?

The Strokes - Last Nite

Last night, she said:
"Oh, baby, I feel so down.
See, it turns me off,
When I feel left out"

So I, I turned 'round:
"Oh baby, don't care no more,
I know this for sure,
I'm walkin' out that door"

Well, I've been in town for just 'bout fifteen oh minutes now
And Baby, I feel so down
See I don't know why!
I was walkin' for miles

And people they don't understand
No, girlfriends, they won't understand
Your Grandsons, they won't understand
And me, I ain't ever gonna understand...

Last night, she said:
"Oh, baby, I feel so down.
See, it turns me off,
When I feel left out"

So I, I turned 'round:
"Oh, baby, gonna be just fine"
It was a great big lie
'Cause I left that night”

And, people they don't understand
No, girlfriends, they won't understand
In spaceships they won't understand
And me, I ain't ever gonna understand...

Last night, she said:
"Oh, baby, don’t feel so down.
See, it turns me off,
When I feel left out"

So I, I turned 'round:
"Oh little girl I don't care no more.
I know this for sure,
I'm walking out that door," yeah...

Versioneando Mrs. Robinson

Eleanor Rigby

Ah, look at all the lonely people
Ah, look at all the lonely people

Eleanor Rigby picks up the rice in the church where a wedding has been
Lives in a dream
Waits at the window, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door
Who is it for?

All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?

Father McKenzie writing the words of a sermon that no one will hear
No one comes near.
Look at him working. Darning his socks in the night when there's nobody there
What does he care?

All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?

Eleanor Rigby died in the church and was buried along with her name
Nobody came
Father McKenzie wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from the grave
No one was saved

All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?

Bizarre Love Triangle (1986) de New Order

Every time I think of you
I feel shot right through with a bolt of blue
It's no problem of mine but it's a problem I find
Living a life that I can't leave behind
There's no sense in telling me
The wisdom of a fool won't set you free
But that's the way that it goes
And it's what nobody knows
While every day my confusion grows
Every time I see you falling
I get down on my knees and pray
I'm waiting for that final moment
You'll say the words that I can't say

I feel fine and I feel good
I'm feeling like I never should
Whenever I get this way, I just
don't know what to say
Why can't we be ourselves like we were yesterday
I'm not sure what this could mean
I don't think you're what you seem
I do admit to myself
That if I hurt someone else
Then I'll never see just what we're meant to be
Every time I see you falling
I get down on my knees and pray
I'm waiting for that final moment
You'll say the words that I can't say.

porque buscando tu sonrisa estaría toda mi vida;

Sonic Youth - Teen Age Riot

[Kim]
You're it
No, you're it
Hey, you're really it
You're it
No I mean it, you're it

Say it
Don't spray it
Spirit desire (face me)
Spirit desire (don't displace me)
Spirit desire
We will fall

Miss me
Don't dismiss me

Spirit desire

Spirit desire
Spirit desire
Spirit desire
We will fall
Spirit desire
We will fall
Spirit desire
Spirit desire
Spirit desire
We will fall
Spirit desire
We will fall

[Thurston]
Everybody's talking 'bout the stormy weather
And what's a man do to but work out whether it's true?
Looking for a man with a focus and a temper
Who can open up a map and see between one and two

Time to get it
Before you let it
Get to you

Here he comes now
Stick to your guns
And let him through

Everybody's coming from the winter vacation
Taking in the sun in a exaltation to you
You come running in on platform shoes
With Marshall stacks
To at least just give us a clue
Ah, here it comes
I know it's someone I knew

Teenage riot in a public station
Gonna fight and tear it up in a hypernation for you

Now I see it
I think I'll leave it out of the way
Now I come near you
And it's not clear why you fade away

Looking for a ride to your secret location
Where the kids are setting up a free-speed nation, for you
Got a foghorn and a drum and a hammer that's rockin'
And a cord and a pedal and a lock, that'll do me for now

It better work outI hope it works out my way'
Cause it's getting kind of quiet in my city's head
Takes a teen age riot to get me out of bed right now

You better look it
We're gonna shake it
Up to him

He acts the hero
We paint a zero
On his hand

We know it's down
We know it's bound too loose
Everybody's sound is round it
Everybody wants to be proud to choose
So who's to take the blame for the stormy weather
You're never gonna stop all the teenage leather and booze

It's time to go round
A one man showdown
Teach us how to fail

We're off the streets now
And back on the road
On the riot trail

Gonna Fly Now (1976) de Bill Conti

Trying hard now
It's so hard now
Trying hard now

Getting strong now
Won't belong now
Getting strong now

Gonna fly now
Flying high now
Gonna fly, fly, fly

The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army

I'm gonna fight 'em off
A seven nation army couldn't hold me back
They're gonna rip it off
Taking their time right behind my back

And I'm talking to myself at night
Because I can't forget
Back and forth through my mind
Behind a cigarette
And the message coming from my eyes
Says leave it alone

Don't want to hear about it
Every single one's got a story to tell
Everyone knows about it
From the Queen of England to the hounds of hell

And if I catch it coming back my way
I'm gonna serve it to you
And that ain't what you want to hear
But that's what I'll do
And a feeling coming from my bones
Says find a home

I'm going to Wichita
Far from this opera forevermore
I'm gonna work the straw
Make the sweat drip out of every pore
And I'm bleeding, and I'm bleeding, and I'm bleeding
Right before the lord
All the words are gonna bleed from me
And I will think no more
And the stains coming from my blood
tell me "go back home".

20. People Get Ready (People Get Ready, 1965) de The Impresions.

19. Purple Rain (Purple Rain, 1984) de Prince and the Revolution.

16. Cowgirl in the Sand (Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, 1969) de Neil Young and Crazy Horse.

15. My Generation (My Generation, 1965) de The Who.

Sobran comentarios.

14. Born to Run (Born to Run, 1975) de Bruce Springsteen.

Genial riff, genial solo y estupenda letra.

13. Layla (Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, 1970) de Derek and the Dominos.

Seguramente, el fraseo más grande del rock.

12. Voodoo Child (Slight Return) (Electric Ladyland, 1968) de The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

11. Whole Lotta Love (Led Zeppelin II, 1969) de Led Zeppelin.

Excitación orgásmica en base a esplendidos riffs.

10. Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nevermind, 1991) de Nirvana.

Crearon estilo y marcaron a mi generación.

9. Statesboro Blues (Fillmore East, 1971) de The Allman Brothers Band.

7. While My Guitar Gently Weeps (The White Album, 1968) de The Beatles.

6. Eruption (Van Halen, 1971) de Van Halen.

Imitadísimo guitarreo de virtuoso. Ciertamente alucinante.

5. Brown Sugar (Sticky Fingers, 1971) de The Rolling Stones.

4. You Really Got Me (1964) de The Kinks.

3. Crossroads (Wheels of Fire, 1968) de Cream.

2. Purple Haze (Are You Experienced, 1967) de The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

  • Seven Nation Army (2003) de The White Stripes (puesto 21).
  • Debaser (1989) de Pixies (50)
  • Say It Ain't So (1994) de Weezer (72)
  • Siver Rocket (1988) de Sonic Youth (79)
  • Only Shallow (1991) de My Bloody Valentine (93)
  • New Day Rising (1985) de Hüsker Dü (96)

10. Angie (Jagger / Richards), 4:31. Primer single de Goats Head Soup (1973). Nº 1 en Reino Unido.

9. You Can't Always Get What You Want (Jagger / Richards), 7:29. Cara B del único single de Through the Past Darkly (Big Hits vol. 2) (1969). Nº 1 tanto en Reino Unido como en Estados Unidos.

8. The Last Time (Jagger / Richards), 3:42. Editado en 7" en 1965. Se incorporó a la recopilación Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass) (1966). Nº 1 en Estados Unidos.

7. Honky Tonk Women (Jagger / Richards), 3:01. Único single de Through the Past Darkly (Big Hits vol. 2) (1969). Nº 1 en Reino Unido y en Estados Unidos.

6. Gimme Shelter (Jagger / Richards), 4:32. Primera canción del álbum Let it bleed (1969).

5. Brown Sugar (Jagger / Richards), 3:49.

Through the Past Darkly (Big Hits vol. 2) (1969). Llegó a nº 1 en Estados Unidos.

3. Paint It, Black (Jagger / Richards), 3:45.

2. Sympathy for the Devil (Jagger / Richards), 6:18.

1. (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction (Jagger / Richards), 3:44. Primer single de Out of Our Heads (1965). Nº 1 en Reino Unido y en Estados Unidos. Sin comentarios. El vídeo es de 1981.
